Lawn Care
You should fertilize your lawn the first part of April. Our recommendation: Use Jirdon’s Crabgrass Control and Fertilizer if crabgrass has been a problem. Or if you just want a great green-up, use Jirdon’s Greenmaster Fertilizer, which is ideal for our soils here in Northern Colorado. You should also fertilize 2 to 3 times in the summer growing season. You can again use Greenmasteror Jirdon’s Weed n’ Feed in May (before the dandelion’s bloom and weeds are very actively growing). Then, you should use Jirdon’s Slow-Release, or Jirdon’s Heat and Drought Stressformula during the summer, depending on the water needs of your lawn. Keep the applications at least 6 weeks apart. Finally, you will want to apply a winterizer fertilizer when the grass is going dormant late in the fall. This fertilizer should be applied right before your last watering in the fall and it will keep your grass healthy and not stressed during the long winter season, plus it gives your grass its first round of nutrients when the weather warms up in early spring (your lawn will be the greenest around -coming out of winter!)
Why Jirdon’s? Although the national brands are found everywhere, this is a time-tested successful lawn fertilizer for our soils and summer temperatures here in Northern Colorado. Made in western Nebraska where conditions are similar, these fertilizers are focused on their Iron and Sulphur content (i.e. Ironite, so you can skip that step!) and with their slow-release nature, your lawn stays green for a much longer time than with soluble fertilizers (i.e. Lawn Care Companies).
See us about the more Organic-based fertilizers if you would like to go with them. There is more detail about their use and frequency than this space allows.
